Computer Virus

Computer Virus
A computer virus is a program, usually small or very small, with the following properties: infection; multiplication; possession of a harmful function.

The function of infection allows the virus to get into program files in data files using a scripting language, or part of the diskette or hard disk containing a small program (boot sector). When access to these programs or sector, the virus code will run first so silent (multiplication phase during which it will infect other files) and visible (activation of the harmful function).

Harmful function can be triggered by very different factors depending on the virus (after n replications at a fixed date in the execution of specific tasks ...). It can be limited to display an annoying message or, more generally, lead to serious disruption of the computer (slow operation, deletion or corruption of files, formatting the hard drive ...). Viruses are parasites programs to be hosted in other files (or executable disk sector).

Is often used improperly to refer to the word virus other malicious programs (malware), especially worms.

Start by identifying the name of the virus by running your antivirus program. If you do not have an antivirus program or if your program does not detect the virus, you may be able to identify it by searching for information about his behavior. Write down the text of the messages displayed by the virus, or if you received the virus through e-mail, note the text that appears in the subject line or name of the file attachment of the message. Then search on the Web site of a publisher antivirus messages and references you noted, to find the name of the virus and the instructions to remove it.

Recovery and Prevention

Once you have removed the virus, you may need to reinstall some software or restore lost information. By performing regular backups of your files, you will limit the risk of data loss in case of new infection. If you still have never made a backup, please do so now.
